Canada has been having a significant export problem over the last few decades. According to the following plot, The data shows that while non-resource exports have increased gradually, resource exports have experienced more dramatic growth and fluctuations, particularly post-2015. By 2020, resource exports spiked to $337 billion, far outpacing non-resource exports, which only reached $258 billion. This divergence emphasizes Canada's economic dependency on its resource sector, which may raise concerns about long-term sustainability, economic diversification, and vulnerability to global commodity price fluctuations.

University of Waterloo and brain drain

a whopping 84% of University of Waterloo grads pack their bags and head to the U.S. right after graduation. Canada's losing some of its brightest minds to better paychecks and opportunities south of the border. For a country that’s all about innovation and tech, this brain drain is a major wake-up call. If we don’t step it up and make the Canadian job market more enticing, we might keep seeing our top talent ditching us for Silicon Valley and beyond.
